How much should I sell my telescope for?
Anthony asked:
It’s a DS 2090 telescope, a refractor with 90mm of clear aperture and a focal length of 800mm and the remote is missing so you can’t automatically go to a celestial object. Everything else is there. Also I have never sold or bought anything used so please make some suggestions.

Jeez — you’re the second person on here who has lost the hand control for their telescope. How do you manage to do that? That’s where about 80% of the value of these little goto scopes lies. Without it, you don’t stand a chance of selling it. Try to order a new hand control from Meade. But how on Earth could you lose it? GeoffG

Well, …, I agree with Geoff. Without that hand controller that scope is worthless. Brand new it retails for $299. If you could find the hand controller and the scope worked then maybe $100 + the cost of the controller … after all it is used and it a lower end scope at that. Without the controller $0 because it’s not even usable.
Instead of selling it you might think about donating it to a school or library and take it as a tax write off. digquickly

Well its not worthless, there’s lots of people looking for a bargain with smaller scopes. True the hand controller is a major part of the scope, but good grief its still useable. I’ve seen 60mm and 70mm scopes without hand controllers for around a hundred dollars or so. so I would think this scope might be worth 120 to 140 dollars roughly. Nick
