What is a good and reasonable price telescope to get? and where at?

I want to buy my boyfriend a telescope for his birthday. He is turning 25 on Feb 12 and he loves anything that has to do with space and earth. He is a beginner on telescopes, but i want to buy him a really cool one that is easy to use and at a reasonable price. A telescope that you can see the planets with would be nice, like Jupiters rings, and other cool things as well.

    Well, some camera stores do carry telescopes. Idaho Camera does. You should generally avoid toy stores and department stores, which carry low quality junk scopes. An online store that carries some good telescopes is Orion at:

    BTW it’s Saturn that has the rings. Jupiter has bands in the cloudtops, with usually just the two equatorial bands visible in a good small amateur scope. thankyoumaskedman

    The rings of Jupiter require a observatory grade telescope, in the millions of dollars. Rings of Saturn are easy to see with any telescope.

    The Meade, Orion and Celestron line of telescopes are well built. Expect to pay over $200 for a refractor scope, more for a mirror variety. As the previous poster suggested, avoid the department store scopes as the optics are horrible. Be sure the scope comes with a tripod. qrk
